Three in the morning and the ghostly glow of the Kindle was fading with each blink. Refusing to fade were the haunting images of the people and events in the book, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Completely out of my comfort zone, I thought this would be a historical fiction story about World War II. My dad is a WWII veteran so I wanted to see a glimpse of the war from a personal account rather than the High School History angle. Was I wrong!
Unbroken is a true story about Louis Zamperini, son, brother, athlete and soldier. This is about the human spirit and the extremes of character; heinously evil behavior to remarkable compassion. The writing is smooth and flowing, the characters haunting and real. Put this on your “Must Read Bucket List” and enjoy spending some time with Louis and his friends.
