Quentin Coldwater is a disaffected teen with a crush on his best friend’s girlfriend and a nearly obsessive preoccupation with a series of children’s books about the mythical Narnia-like world of Fillory. And it’s Fillory that Quentin believes he has stumbled into when a walk on a bitterly cold New York City day magically transports him to a warm summer day. Instead, Quentin is told that he is at Brakebills, a school for the magically inclined. After passing the entrance exam with a surprising display of magic, Quentin and his classmates get down to learning the hows and whys of magic which is no simple task. As the years pass, the students become more adept at their craft, but upon graduation they find themselves as aimless as ever, unsure of their purpose, so when one of the magicians discover a way into the real world of Fillory, they jump at the chance for excitement and adventure. But Fillory is another dimension with creatures and evils all its own and unlike anything these young men and women have ever faced.
