Fans of Stieg Larsson will undoubtably flock to this bestselling Scandinavian thriller. Kaaberbøl and Friis introduce us to Nina Borg, a driven Red Cross nurse, in what promises to be the first in a series of gripping mysteries. A friend pleads with Nina to retrieve something from inside a locker at the Copenhagen train station. That something turns out to be a suitcase; inside is a naked, sedated, three-year-old boy. Who is this boy? Is he a victim of human trafficking? Who does he belong to? In her quest to protect the boy and find out where he belongs, Nina is exposed to Denmark’s dark underbelly. A place where some people don’t want to be found. To complicate matters, a very wealthy man has hired a killer to track down the boy, and now that man is after Nina. Why does he want the boy?
While the characters are a bit hard to follow at first (and perhaps that may be blamed on the translation), the authors know how to keep their readers interested. This is a very fast-paced thriller that you will not be able to put down. If you enjoy suspense, unexpected twists and turns, and a surprise ending, you will certainly enjoy The Boy in the Suitcase.
