Class Assignments
Educators are encouraged to send their upcoming assignments to the library so that we might prepare for students’ needs. You may send in your assignments by emailing our Children’s or Young Adult Librarians or by calling 978-921-6062. Please let us know the grade level, depth and subject of your assignment.
Staff can also arrange displays of books in the library to support your assignments. Please keep in mind, the more notice we have, the better able we are to serve you.
Internet Resources
For teachers or students who have Internet access from home, it is possible to renew and request materials using your library card number and a PIN (Personal Identification Number). PINs are available only at the Circulation desk.
The library subscribes to several online databases which provide access to contemporary and historical magazines, journals and newspapers. Most of these databases along with the library’s catalog, can be accessed from school or home through the library’s website. School or home access to databases requires a library card number for use as a password.
Loan Policies
Teachers may apply for cards in their own names, but no generic school cards are allowed according to NOBLE policy. Any materials borrowed by a teacher for classroom use are that teacher’s personal responsibility, including replacement of lost or damaged items and any overdue fees that may be accrued.
Reading Programs
The library provides a variety of reading programs to develop reading skills in children and teenagers. We run preschool story hours and book discussion groups for children and adults. The library also sponsors poetry readings and talks by local authors. In April, during National Poetry Month, the Young Adult Department runs a poetry contest for Beverly teenagers.
The branch, Children’s and Young Adult librarians work in tandem with Beverly school librarians to create the annual lists of summer reading titles for the Beverly Public Schools. The library provides limited copies of both the mandatory general summer reading list books and those required for Beverly High School AP History, AP English and AP Statistics summer reading. All required reading lists are posted on our website.
Student Orientation
The library welcomes class visits for students of all ages. Library staff can give tours of the library, orientation in the use of library resources and read stories. In order to ensure enough staffing coverage, at least two weeks notice must be given prior to a class visit. For pre-K to grade 5, please contact Emily Nichols, the Head of Children’s Services at nichols@noblenet.org. For grades 6 to 9, please contact Liz Manning, the Young Adult Services Librarian, at emanning@noblenet.org. Both can also be reached via phone at 978-921-6062.
Librarians are available on a limited basis for outreach visits to classrooms to give library orientations and book talks. Again, ample notice in advance is needed – at least two weeks.
Additionally, the Bookmobile will often stop at schools – please contact Linda Caravaggio at 978-921-6062 to make arrangements.
