Children’s Programs & Events

Books and Babies: Newborn to 18 months

We read simple board books and do rhymes and bounces, tickles and hugs. The purpose is to show care-givers how to use books with their babies, and introduce our youngest patrons to the joy of language.  When in session, it is held on

  • Tuesdays at 9:30 AM, starting on March 16 – April 27
  • Thursdays at 10:15 AM, starting on March 18 – April 29

Mother Goose: 18 months to 3 years

Children listen to three or four stories, and participate in circle games, songs, and finger plays with the librarian and their care-giver. After the regular Story Time is over, care-givers may read to their children in the Story Hour Room if they wish. When in session, it is held on

  • Tuesdays at 10:30 AM, starting on March 16 – April 27
  • Wednesdays at 9:30 AM, starting on March 18 – April 28

Preschool Story Time: 3 years and older

We read three or four stories, do songs and “stretches” and end with a simple craft project. Children are expected to attend without their care-giver, but the staff is flexible about this.  When in session, it is held on

  • Wednesdays at 10:30 AM, starting on March 17 – April 28
  • Thursdays at 1:15 PM, starting on March 18 – April 29 CANCELED

Astronomy Club: Grades 1-5

This group is for grade-school children who are interested in learning more about outer space and the United States Space Program. We will meet in the Children’s Room of the main library on the first Wednesday of each month, from 3:15 to 4:15 PM, October through May. We will do science experiments, use a telescope, design a moon base for astronauts to live in, and welcome occasional guest speakers who have had a part in the space program. Children do not need to attend every meeting to be a club member and can join at any time, simply by attending one of the meetings. Meeting dates are:

Graphic Novel Club: Grades 1-5

The Graphic Novel Club is for children in grades 1 through 5 who like to read and talk about graphic novels. We will meet in the Children’s Room of the main library on the second Wednesday of each month, from 3:15 to 4:15 PM, October through May. Members are encouraged to bring a favorite graphic novel to share with the group. Part of each meeting will be devoted to talking about graphic novels and part to writing and drawing our own graphic novels. Paper and art supplies will be provided. All ability levels are welcomed. Children do not need to attend every meeting to be a club member and can join at any time simply by attending one of the meetings. Meeting dates are:
