Children’s Programs & Events

FALL SESSION BEGINS SEPTEMBER 28th!

Baby Story Time: Newborn to 18 months

We read simple board books and do rhymes and bounces, tickles and hugs. The purpose is to show care-givers how to enjoy books with their babies, and introduce our youngest patrons to the joy of language.  When in session, it is held on

  • Tuesdays at 9:30 AM
  • Thursdays at 10:15 AM

Toddler Story Time: 18 months to 3 years

Children listen to three or four stories, and participate in circle games, songs, and finger plays with the librarian and their care-giver. After the regular Story Time is over, care-givers may read to their children in the Story Hour Room if they wish. When in session, it is held on

  • Tuesdays at 10:30 AM
  • Wednesdays at 9:30 AM

Preschool Story Time: 3 years and older

We read three or four stories, do songs and “stretches” and end with a simple craft project. Children are expected to attend without their care-giver, but the staff is flexible about this.  When in session, it is held on

  • Wednesdays at 10:30 AM
  • Thursdays at 1:15 PM

Astronomy & Science Club: Grades 1-5

Astronomy & Science Club is for grade-school children who are interested in learning more about Science, outer space and the United States Space Program. The club will meet weekly on Wednesdays, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, beginning the last week of September. We will do Science experiments and learn about space in a messy but educational way. Children do not need to attend every meeting to be a club member and can join at any time simply by attending one of the meetings.

Astronomy & Science club will be run by Assistant Children’s Librarian, Linda Furey, who is a member of the NASA and Lunar and Planetary Institute’s Lunar Librarian program. She spent a week at the Kennedy Space Center attending briefings, meeting astronauts and viewing the launch of the LRO/LCROSS Moon probe.

Astronomy & Science Club will meet in the Children’s Room on the following Wednesdays at 3:00 PM:

French Club: Grades 1-5

French Club is for grade-school children who are interested in learning about France and how to speak French. We will look at maps and photographs, read French stories (sometimes in French), play games, sing songs and learn basic vocabulary. The club will meet weekly on Thursdays, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, beginning the last week in September. Children do not need to attend every meeting to be a club member but it is recommended. A child can join at any time simply by attending one of the meetings.

French Club will be run by Assistant Children’s Librarian, Linda Furey, who has also taught Art, Writing and Drama to children at a variety of locations in Massachusetts and California. She has traveled to France several times and will be sharing stories and photographs she took on her trips.

French Club will meet in the Children’s Room on the following Thursdays at 3:00 PM:
