What does it mean to live as a body in a culture where you are not expected to move? Do you think of yourself as a body, or do you think of your body as something you are stuck in? Do you allow yourself to spend time moving as a body in a way that you enjoy? If you take attractiveness out of the question, how do you feel about your body? How do YOU like to move?
These are just some of the questions Andrea Yarian and fellow artists would like people to think about as they view the group exhibit “Embodiment: A Community Challenge to Move Towards a Greater Awareness of Embodied Living,” on display in the Sohier Room at the Beverly Public Library through January 2012. Local artists and students from Gordon College will display paintings, drawings, and sculpture centered on the concept of embodiment in our post-industrial, sedentary culture. On Saturday, January 21, 2012 meet the artists at a reception to be held from 2-5 PM in the Sohier Room. Enjoy refreshments while you have the chance to
talk to the artists about their work.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the exhibit by drawing on the life-size chalkboard Ms. Yarian has provided, and are invited to send comments to Angela Yarian. The exhibit is sponsored by Bonfire Health. For more information please call the library at 978-921-6062.
