Calling All Teen Poets!

a penStarting Friday, January 1, the library will accept entries from local teen poets to be judged in our Annual Teen Poetry Contest. Winners will read their poems aloud at our Poetry Contest Awards Ceremony & Reception on Monday, April 26, 2010 and will receive cash prizes. In order to qualify you must: 1) live in Beverly, MA or attend a school located in Beverly, MA; 2) submit no more than 3 poems total; 3) include a fully completed entry form with EACH submission; 4) be enrolled in grades 6- 12 (or be the equivalent age if home schooled); 5) submit your poem(s) by 9 PM, Monday, March 1, 2010.

Beverly Reads Begins with Tea Party and Storytelling

Sample delicious teas and a variety of treats from local bakeries, view artwork inspired by favorite books created by local students, and enjoy the story telling of Tony Toledo as we begin our Beverly Reads campaign.

Kids – would you like your own artwork exhibited at the Beverly Reads Tea Party Kickoff on January 31? Just make a poster to show what you love about reading. It can be a scene from a favorite story, a favorite place you like to read, or a picture of you and a favorite reading friend! Bring it to the main library or the Farms branch by Friday, January 22 and we will display it for all to see.

Save Room for Pie Potluck

apple pieThe Beverly Public Library will celebrate National Pie Day with a pie potluck and local storyteller Tony Toledo on Thursday, January 21 at 7:00 PM. Created by the American Pie Council, National Pie Day is dedicated to the celebration of pie.
Bring a homemade or store-bought pie and enjoy a slice or two while listening to Tony entertain the crowd with his favorite pie stories, pie poems and, new this year, a pie panel discussion! The library will provide hot and cold beverages. This free event is open to all and takes place in the Sohier Room on the first floor of the Beverly Public Library.
