In December, local artist Elizabeth Hestevold will exhibit “The Poetics of New England,” a collection of paintings expressing her love of the North Shore landscape. Formerly a resident of California, Elizabeth says, “Within the series I try to record things which to my western eye stand out as unique to the landscape of the east….My emphasis is to relate to the subtleties of the New England landscape, its unique character.” Elizabeth’s exhibit will run from December 2 through December 31. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, December 2 from 7 – 9 PM.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The library is wheelchair accessible.
Do you like watching animé? Do you want to hang out with other people who do, too? Then join us on the third Tuesday of each month from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in the main library’s Sohier Room for our monthly Animé Club meetings. We watch a Japanese animation DVD, eat some snacks, and all we ask you to do (besides showing up!) is to fill out a short survey about the DVD we’ve shown that day. Funimation will send us free animé DVDs for the club to view if we fill out the surveys and send them back – a pretty cool deal! You can come to just one meeting, to some, or to all of them and you don’t need to sign up. All teens aged 10-18 are welcome. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

Get into the holiday spirit by listening to stories, singing songs and making a craft.
Last year, the Beverly Public Library & The Greater Beverly Education Roundtable presented “Beverly Reads”: a series of programs centered around Stephen Puleo’s Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. This year, they have chosen Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson. It is the story about the author’s work building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the events that started him on his humanitarian journey. Events will kickoff in January and run through March. Please be sure to check back at http://beverlyreads.blogspot.com/ for more information as it becomes available.
Buying cards isn’t very expensive, but why not get creative and make some holiday cards instead? Whether you’re into art or just want to try something different, join us as we provide you with all the materials to make unique and fun greeting cards! This event will take place in the Sohier Room on Friday, December 4 from 3 – 4:30 PM and is open to all teens aged 10-18. The workshop is free – no registration needed. We hope to see you there!
