Beginning in April, the main library’s Reference Department will be offering 1-hour, one-on-one resume and online job application help sessions from 6-7pm on Mondays. A staff member can assist you with formatting your resume, writing a cover letter, or applying for a job online. To reserve a space, please sign up at the Reference Desk or call 978-921-6062.
Our Spring Book Sale is just around the corner (May 2-May 10) and we need your donations to make it a success. The proceeds from the book sale are used by the Friends of the Library to purchase museum passes, computers, special programs, furniture and more. If you have gently used books that you would like to donate, please drop them off in the Children’s Room of the main library. If you need help getting your books to the library, please call us and we can arrange for assistance.
Do you know some kids who love to explore and make things? In March we will begin selling raffle tickets for an awesome basket of fun educational games and activities. There will be a limited number of tickets sold, just 300, so your chances of winning will be good! Each ticket costs just $2.00 and all proceeds will go towards a new Bookmobile for the library. The basket, donated by one of our generous Trustees, contains a Crystal Growing Kit, a Corythosaurus Model Kit, Foam Craft Projects, Kid Concoctions, a Deluxe Investigation Set, a Motorized Pirate Ship Model and two books on crafts. This would make a wonderful present for some lucky child, beef up the goodies at a daycare, or add hours of fun to a classroom or homeschooler’s curriculum. Tickets are available at the Circulation desks at both branches and at the Children’s desk in the main library. The basket is on display in the Children’s room at the main library. The winner will be chosen when all the tickets are sold.
Are you a news junkie? Want to talk with others about what’s behind the headlines? Come join us for four successive Tuesdays, starting March 24th, to discuss what’s in the news! As part of a new initiative, Salem State College is taking some of their popular “Salem Explorers” courses on the road, and the Beverly Public Library will be hosting a four-week session on Current Events. Led by Earl Garber, each session will start at 6:30 PM at the main library and consist of two hours of information and discussion (with a short break for refreshments!) on the myriad of current events affecting our lives. This program is free and open to the public.
Join us Thursday April 2, 2009 from 7:30-9PM for the Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library. The featured guest speaker will be Dr. Helena Judith Sturnick, president of the Montserrat College of Art. Dr. Sturnick will talk about Montserrat: where it is now, where it is going, and the new residence halls under construction on Winter and Essex Streets.
A seasoned college president, she has led The Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, OH; Vermont College, Montpelier, VT; Keene State College, NH; and the University of Maine at Farmington. Dr. Sturnick was appointed president of Montserrat College of Art in June 2007.
A question and answer session will follow the talk. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome to the meeting; no registration necessary.
