The library is hosting an all-ages session of wreath decorating just in time for the winter holidays. Join us Saturday, December 5 between 1:30 and 4:30 PM in the Barnet Gallery. We will provide decorating materials and light refreshments – you provide the wreath and the creativity! Staff will be available for simple assistance, but will not be instructing in decorating techniques.
A limited number of wreaths will be available for purchase through local Boy Scout troop #2 (main library, 1st floor) on that day and can be purchased using cash or local checks. Please register for this program by calling 978-921-6062 so we can correctly gauge the amount of decorating supplies required. This event is free and open to the public. Teens, adults and families are welcome. This program is partly funded by the Friends of the Library.
Susan Richardson has written and illustrated “The Beverly Bookmobile“, a book about our wonderful city and the Bookmobile that travels its roads. Illustrated in a wonderful combination of photographs and colored pencil drawings, the book shows many of Beverly’s landmarks and, of course, the library bookmobile and its librarian, Linda. A map of Beverly in the back of the book shows where each landmark is located. Ms. Richardson will be signing copies of her book at the Beverly Library on Saturday, November 7, from 2 to 4 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to buy a book that is both a wonderful keepsake and a fun book to share with your children. The book sells for $10 and is also available at the library and directly through the author at s_scape@comcast.net. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Beverly Bookmobile fund. Be sure and drop in to meet Susan, and talk to her about her inspiration to create a unique, one-of-a-kind book!
Did you know that Footnote.com just added over one million records pertaining to the Holocaust? On September 29, the National Archives and Footnote announced the release of the Internet’s largest interactive Holocaust collection. Included are: Concentration camp registers and documents from Dachau, Mauthausen, Auschwitz, and Flossenburg; the “Ardelia Hall Collection” of records relating to the Nazi looting of Jewish possessions, including looted art; captured German records including deportation and death lists from concentration camps; nearly 600 interactive personal accounts of those who survived or perished in the Holocaust (provided by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum) and Nuremberg War Crimes Trial proceedings. Millions of names and 26,000 photographs can be found in these records. Footnote also carries millions of other historical and genealogical records, including military pension records, naturalization records and FBI case files. Footnote is one of the many databases carried by the Beverly Public Library, and it can be accessed in the library. Try it the next time you are here!
